Edit Help

Use this control panel to interactively edit knots in three dimensions. When
in the editor, use the mouse in the view window in the following ways:

--- clicking down on the knot itself will perform some sort of editing
operation on the knot. Just before you click you should see visual
feedback as to what operation will occur. Also, if `help text' is
selected, there will be helpful text in the view window as well.

--- clicking down in a blank area away from the knot will perform the usual
view changing operations (left mouse to rotate, middle mouse to
       translate, right mouse to scale)

Which edit operation is performed can be changed in the `Default operation'
section. The radio buttons there change the operation that is done when no
keys are pressed. Any of the non-default operations can be performed without
changing the default operation by pressing down the indicated key before you
click the mouse. Make sure the view window has keyboard focus before you press
a key. Example uses are:

--- suppose you mostly want to move things, but occasionally want to delete
stuff. in this case leave the default operation at `move bead/cyl' and
just before you want to delete something press and hold the `d' key.

--- perhaps you love adding loops, then check the `add loop' operation.
add your loops as desired, press `m' when you want to move something.

For all of the operations, visual feedback is given when you hover the mouse
over the knot.

Movement constraints: use the radio buttons in this section to restrict
the direction that things can be moved in. Note that `xy' means `don't allow
movement in the x or y direction', i.e., move only in the z-direction. You
may have to rotate the scene to perform movement if you use these constraints.
It can be helpful to turn on `xyz axes' in the Display section to see what
the directions are.

For convenience these controls are provided here. They are copies of what is
found on the Main panel and are described in the help page there.
